What Makes a Medical Visit Valuable?

Long Covid, MD Livestream March 25, 2025

Thank you Chana M, Tresa, Bluey, and many others for tuning into my live video!

Subscribe to join the next livestream on Friday April 25 at 9am Pacific Time.

This week we gathered for a Substack Live to discuss ways to make the most out of our medical appointments. What makes a visit valuable? When does it do more harm than good?

We also covered questions from the group, including:

  • I’m losing my favorite doctor because of insurance changes. What are my options?

  • My provider wrote something wrong on my chart. How do I dispute a misdiagnosis on my medical record?

  • I don’t think the plan my doctor suggested is right for me. Can I decline a proposed treatment or test?

As people with chronic illness, medical appointments can become the center of our life - that’s not only boring, it comes at a high energy cost. After a while, it can also feel like we have lost control of our medical decisions.

Remember that you are the captain of this ship. Your medical information and medical decisions are yours.

You can now upgrade to a paid subscription to support this platform’s effort to explain emerging science behind long COVID and explain treatment options. It’s important to keep long COVID information free, accessible, and visible. Monetary support helps that mission, and so does reading, engaging, and sharing.

COVID-19 and long COVID research funding has been slashed this week, but we know that COVID and long COVID haven’t disappeared. We’re still here, we still need help, and I think more than ever, we need one another.
